                       1. Seeking Alms                         My heart let out a sigh, was that really me?


                                                               A birth certificate given, with a seal,
          I stand before you Acharya, begging for bhiksha:,    Father's name, mole on chin, mark of identity,
          I'm starved, aching with spiritual hunger,           Time, place, weight, neatly recorded,
          Bless me with morsels, bestow some siksha:,          My heart let out a sigh, was that really me?
          Knowledge that I can both, ingest and digest.
                                                               She enjoys sweets, avoids spicy food,
          Knowledge by itself is too dry to consume,           My likes, dislikes, became my identity,
          Grant me water of Bhakthi to make a dough,           Music, trees, earthy smells, cool breeze,
          Clear my heart of earthly attachment's fume,         My heart let out a sigh, was that really me?
          In flames of vaira:gya, let the dough get baked.
                                                               Disciplined, intelligent, bit of a rebel,
          As this 'bread', my hunger does appease,             My qualities became my identity,
          Let me realise God, that One Supreme,                Introverted, kind, but only a few friends,
          Blend thought, word, action, Him to please,          My heart let out a sigh, was that really me?
          In total surrender, let my breaths be taken.
                                                               A school report issued, first in class,
          As Jna:na, Bhakthi and Karma harmonise,              My achievements became my identity,
          Let me experience Him within and without,            Debater, Orator, Poet, wins prizes,
          Moving from individual, the Universal realise,       My heart let out a sigh, was that really me?
          Attain Him finally, in His service forever.
                                                               A homemaker, social worker, teacher,
                        - By ninananda, Hyderabad              Job, relationships became my identity,
                                                               Daughter, sister, wife and mother,

                                                               Am I just what I do, have, and think?
                                                               Does people's opinion make my identity?
          As I entered this world and let out a cry,           Name, shape, senses, mind and intellect?
          'It's a girl', they said, my first identity,         My heart let out a sigh, was that really me?
           'Nice eyes, mother's smile, cute dimple.'
